The Médecins Sans Frontières’ (MSF, Doctors Without Borders) Access Campaign today announced that Gaëlle Krikorian has been named its new Head of Policy.

Krikorian is a researcher and activist who has worked on related public health issues for many years.

According to the MSF release, until recently, Krikorian was “an advisor on Access to Knowledge and Intellectual Property issues for the Greens–European Free Alliance at the European Parliament.

Earlier this decade, she co-edited a book on “social mobilizations in this field” MSF said, entitled, Access to Knowledge in the Age of Intellectual Property, along with Yale Law School Professor Amy Kapczynski.

From the MSF release:

“Dr. Krikorian has a PhD in sociology from École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) and is a member of the Interdisciplinary Research Institute on Social Issues (IRIS), Paris. She has conducted extensive research on social movements, globalization, health and technologies. She has authored several articles on issues concerning the Commons, intellectual property, access to medicines and access to knowledge. Her previous experience includes working for almost ten years as an HIV/AIDS activist with Act Up in Paris.”

“I am delighted to welcome Dr. Krikorian to MSF’s Access Campaign. With her vast experience working on access to medicines and knowledge, I am really looking forward to her valuable contributions to further the objectives of the Access Campaign to increase people’s access to essential medicines and medical tools,” Els Torreele, executive director of MSF’s Access Campaign, was quoted as saying.

Krikorian will be based in Paris.

Previously, the post of Director of Policy and Analysis at MSF was held by Rohit Malpani, who earlier this year joined the New York-based group I-MAK (Initiative for Medicines, Access & Knowledge).
